Bowie State University's independent evaluation of Prosper demonstrates that the app is making a measurable difference in how students engage with their emotional wellness and how that wellness connects to their success in school.
Prosper captured over 35,000 student emotional check-ins, giving young people a consistent, accessible way to reflect on their feelings and communicate their well-being. This level of engagement highlights Prosper's role as a scalable digital support tool that extends opportunities for emotional expression far beyond what traditional systems alone can provide.
The evaluation found a moderate positive correlation between student mental health and school engagement (r = .451, p < .001). In practical terms, students who reported stronger emotional wellness were more likely to feel connected and motivated in their academic environment, reinforcing Prosper's value as a tool that supports both well-being and learning readiness.
Similarly, researchers identified a strong positive relationship between happiness and school engagement (r = .453, p < .001). Prosper's regular check-in framework encourages emotional awareness, helping students build habits of reflection that are associated with greater participation and involvement in school life.
The evaluation also confirmed that support systems matter: perceived family support was a significant predictor of student engagement (β = −.228, p < .001). By surfacing insights about students' emotional and social environments, Prosper equips educators and program partners with meaningful data to better understand the factors influencing student wellness.
Overall, evaluators concluded that Prosper demonstrates clear utility as a digital emotional wellness platform, enabling frequent self-expression, supporting emotional awareness, and strengthening the connection between well-being and student engagement. The findings affirm Prosper's potential as a powerful companion to existing student support systems.
